Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes the practices of The Princess Project, a California nonprofit corporation (the “Princess Project”) in connection with personal information that we collect through the websites maintained by the Princess Project and its chapters (collectively, the “Sites“). This “Privacy Policy” only applies to personal information collected through the Sites including appointment/volunteer registration applications accessed through the Sites. You can access the Sites in many ways, including from a computer or mobile phone, and this Privacy Policy will apply regardless of the means of access to the Sites. This Privacy Policy does not govern the collection or use of information from any third-party site or application where we post content or invite your feedback or participation, including, but not limited to, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The Princess Project cannot control the privacy policies or practices of such sites or of companies that the Princess Project does not own or control. You should always check the privacy policies of these sites and your privacy settings. This Privacy Policy does not address the Princess Project’s practices regarding personal information that we collect through any other means.


1. Information Collection and Use

The Princess Project requests information from you at various points in the Sites. You are under no obligation to enter any information on the Sites; however, in order to participate in a Princess Project dress giveaway or volunteer at those events, or to support the mission of the Princess Project through online financial donations, such information collection is necessary. Below is a brief summary of the information we typically collect from you through the Sites and how it is used.


  • Dress Giveaways Registrations: When you register through a Site to participate in a dress giveaway event (or to be the guest of someone who is participating in a giveaway event), we may ask for your name, address, phone number, email address, and date of birth. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will provide this information and their own contact information (such as email address, mailing address and telephone number) and their date of birth.


  • Volunteer Applications and Registrations: When you apply through a Site to be a volunteer, we will may ask you for your name, contact information such as phone number, email address and mailing address, date of birth and emergency contact information. You also have the option of providing us with any medical information you want us to know such as allergies or medication. We may ask for other data as well, depending on the volunteer activity. We use this information to populate our volunteer database and to contact you in connection with volunteer activities.


  • Online Financial Donations: We use a third-party payment service, PayPal, to collect financial donations made through the Sites. If you wish to make a financial donation through the Sites, you will be directed to a web page hosted by PayPal (or PayPal’s service providers) and not by the Princess Project (the “PayPal Page“). Any personal information that you provide through the PayPal page will be collected by PayPal and not by the Princess Project, and will be subject to PayPal’s privacy policy and not this Policy. The Princess Project has no control over, and shall not be responsible for, PayPal’s use of information collected through the PayPal Page. We do understand that PayPal’s privacy policy allows PayPal to share the donor’s name, contact information and donation amount with the Princess Project. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PRIVACY POLICY DOES NOT ADDRESS THE COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION THROUGH THE PAYPAL PAGE OR THE PRIVACY OR INFORMATION PRACTICES OF PAYPAL.


  • Sending an email: You may decide to send us personal information through the Sites, for example, in an electronic mail message containing a question or comment, or by filling out a web form on the Sites that provides us this information. We use personal information from email primarily to respond to your requests. We may also retain any messages you send through the Sites. We use this information to operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of the website. We may also use your email to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.


  • Newsletters: Some of the Princess Project chapters offer email newsletters. When you subscribe to receive one of those newsletters through the Sites, we may ask you for your name and email address.


  • Analytics information: We may directly collect analytics data, or use third-party analytics tools, to help us measure traffic and usage trends for the Sites. These tools collect information sent by your browser or mobile device, including the pages you visit and other information that assists us in improving the Sites. We collect and use this analytics information in aggregate form such that it cannot reasonably be manipulated to identify any particular individual user.


  • Cookies information: When you visit the web site, we may send one or more cookies — a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters — to be stored on your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and enhances your navigation through the Sites. A cookie may also convey information to us about how you use the Sites (e.g., the pages you view, the links you click and other actions you take on the Sites), and allow us or our service providers to track your usage of the Sites over time. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Sites may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.


  • Log Files: One or more of the Sites may use IP addresses to help analyze trends, administer the site, track users’ movements, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.


2. How We Use and Share Your Information

If you provide us with personal information when you visit the Sites, we may use the information in our programs and activities. We may enter your information into one of our databases so we can contact you to obtain your input, provide information about our programs and events, or request contributions or donations. From time to time we use vendors, service providers and third-party applications to assist us with our activities and programs. In order for those vendors, service providers and third-party applications to perform services for the Princess Project and assist us with our activities and programs, on occasion and as appropriate for the performance of those services, providing of assistance with, and use, of the applications, the Princess Project may share personal information about you with those vendors, service providers and third-party applications. These vendors, service providers and third-party applications help us with functions such as scheduling dress giveaways, sending emails and donation solicitations, performing accounting and bookkeeping services, completing consents, scheduling volunteers and dress giveaway appointments, managing data and processing donations. In addition, we make disclosures as required by law. We do aggregate information about how our Sites are used (without specific identification to any particular user) to be able to improve the Sites and make it more responsive to our users’ preferences.


We may, at times, produce reports for sponsors containing aggregate information about our dress giveaways such as number of participants for events, demographics, age, and other information. This allows us to work more closely with sponsors to provide content and offers that are most relevant to our users. We will never include any personal information of our participants, participant guests, parents/guardians or volunteers in these reports.


The Princess Project may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide personal information obtained through the Sites. We will provide this information, to the extent technically possible and available, upon request and receipt of appropriate documentation. Disclosure may also occur if we consider it necessary to protect our legal rights, or the if the information relates to actual or threatened harmful conduct.


3. Use of Links

Throughout the Sites, we may, from time to time, provide links to other servers hosted by service providers. We are not responsible for the practices employed by websites or services linked to or from the Sites, including the information or content contained therein. Please remember that when you use a link to go from our site to another website, our Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services. Creating a text link from your web site to our site does not require permission.


4. Security

The Princess Project cares about the security of your personal information collected through the Sites, and uses commercially reasonable safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of all information collected through the Sites. However, the Princess Project cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to the Princess Project or guarantee that information on the Sites may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.


5. Children

We do not intend to collect, maintain, store or use personal information about children under the age of 13.


6. Your Consent and Questions

By submitting personal information through the Sites (or a Site link to a service provider), you give your consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of such information as described in this Privacy Policy.
